SHARI'AH SUPERVISORY BOARD

The Shariah Supervisory Board directs, reviews and supervises the activities of AHL’s Islamic subsidiary, AHT.

Responsibilities:
  • Guide, monitor and supervise the activities of the company to ensure compliance with Islamic principles.
  • Review and approve compliant individual and corporate products.
  • Review and approve compliant member and shareholder investments.
Shari'ah Supervisory Board:
Professor. Dr. Ali Al-Quradaghi - Chairman

Occupation: Professor of Jurisprudence, in the Faculty of Shari’ah Law and Islamic Studies at the University of Qatar.

Academic qualification: Graduated in 1969 from the Islamic Institute in Iraq. Obtained a Certificate of Traditional Islamic studies under the guidance of various eminent scholars in Iraq in 1970. Obtained a B.Sc. in Islamic Shari’ah from Baghdad University in Iraq in 1975. Obtained in 1980 a Masters Degree in Shari’ah and Comparative Fiqh from Al-Azhar University in Cairo in 1980. Obtained a Ph.D. in Shari’ah Law with distinction from El Azhar University in Cairo in 1985.

Shari’ah Board Membership: He is a member of the Shari’ah Board for Dubai Islamic Bank, an executive member of the Shari’ah Board for Doha Bank Islamic Branch, an executive member of the Shari’ah Board for Qatar Islamic Insurance, an executive member of the Shari’ah Board of First Co. for Investment in Kuwait, the chairman and executive member of the Shari’ah Board for the Ahli United Bank Group for Al Hilal Islamic Banking Services, the chairman and executive Member of the Shari’ah Board of Al Khaleej Takaful Insurance & Reinsurance Company QSC and a member of various Shari’ah Boards for a number of Islamic banks and other Islamic financial institutions.

Experience: He is currently a Professor of Jurisprudence and its Principles in the Faculty of Shari’ah Law and Islamic Studies at the University of Qatar. He is a member of the Islamic Fiqh Academy, a Member of the organisation of Islamic Conference, a Member of the European (Muslims) Council for Efta and Researches, a Member of the International Union of the Muslims Scholars (IUMS), a Member of the Academic Advisory Committee of the Islamic Studies Centre at Oxford University in the UK and the Chairman of the Board for the University of Human Development.

Publications: He has published over 80 works, which includes books and several research papers that tackles various types of Islamic Finance, Islamic Fiqh, Zakah and Islamic Economy.

Professor.Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Qassar - Member

Occupation: He is the Director of the Department of Arabic & Islamic Studies at the College of Arts at the University of Kuwait. He is an Assistant Professor and holds a Ph.D. in Shari’ah and Law from El Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt.

Shari’ah Board Membership: He is a member the Shari’ah Board for the First Co. for Investment in Kuwait, a member of the Shari’ah Board for the Kuwaiti Real Estate Bank in Kuwait, a member of the Shari’ah Board for the Kuwait Ministry of Awqaf & Islamic Affairs, a member of the Shari’ah Board for the Ahli United Bank Group for Al Hilal Islamic Banking Services, the chairman of the Shari’ah Board for Bank London & Middle East in the UK and the chairman of the Shari’ah Board for Al-Safat Co. for Investment in Kuwait.

Dr. Fareed Mohammed Hadi - Member

Occupation: He is a Director at the Department of Arabic & Islamic Studies at the College of Arts at the University of Bahrain. He is an Assistant Professor and holds a Ph.D.

Academic qualification: He studied at the Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and obtained an MA degree. He obtained a Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh in 1999 and obtained a Ph.D. from the University of King Muhammad the 5th in Morocco in 2002.

Shari’ah Board Membership: He is an executive member of GFH Investment in the Kingdom of Bahrain, an executive member of Khaleeji Commercial Bank in the Kingdom of Bahrain and a member of the Shari’ah Board of Ahli United Bank Group for Al Hilal Islamic Banking.
